NZ needs to keep sight of ecological goals

An environmental expert says while the short term focus of the Budget makes economic sense, it's important not to lose sight of our ecological goals. 11-thousand 'nature-based jobs' are promised in the Budget - a lifeline for New Zealanders out of work due to Covid-19, with major focus areas like pest control, revegetation, cleaning up waterways and improvements to public tracks and huts. Wildlife ecologist Dr Andrea Byrom is the director of the BioHeritage National Science Challenge. Dr Byrom told our environment reporter Rachel Thomas, freshwater restoration and pest control makes a difference, but it's important to carefully track where we're headed.
