Sixth death reported from Pharmac's epilepsy drug switch

From First Up, 5:51 am on 6 March 2020

First Up has learned a sixth death has been reported to the Centre for Adverse Reactions Monitoring, following Pharmac's epilepsy drug switch. About 11-thousand people, most with epilepsy but some with mental health conditions, began switching to a generic form of the drug lamotrigine, called Logem, last year. After four possibly linked deaths were reported to the centre, Pharmac backed down - agreeing to provide funding for most people who applied to stay on their original brand. Well Bella Gubay, whose child has epilepsy, has been advocating against the switch. She's been in contact with the family of the person who has died and joins me now.
