Rabbit processing plant is being driven out of business

Those trying to make a living from selling wild rabbits to restaurants and for pet food say they are being driven out of business by high compliance costs. Shooters and processors spoken to by RNZ say audits up to every six weeks are over the top and they should not be treated the same as a large meatworks. Bob Thomson has run a sole operator rabbit processing plant on the outskirts of Christchurch for the past two decades. He told Conan Young the high cost of trying to make a living from rabbits had left him wondering if he should throw it all in.
