Northland locals turn to ER due to GP shortage

A dire shortage of family doctors in Northland mean locals are flooding the region's main emergency department. Each day, staff at Whangerei Hospital's emergency department send away about eight patients with vouchers for casual GP visits. Northland MP Shane Reti, who is a GP, says family doctors are an ageing workforce, and much more needs to be done to attract new medical professionals.
