Permafrost could flood the atmosphere with carbon

A sudden thawing of the world's permafrost could flood the atmosphere with carbon - in turn leading to a further increase in global temperatures. Around 60% of the world's soil carbon is stored in permafrosts - which is ground that remains frozen for at least two years - and new research says we've been underestimating just how quickly this could be released. Gary Wilson's the Chief Scientist at GNS Science and says we've previously expected permafrost to melt at a steady rate. But he told First Up's Lydia Batham it's now thawing in unexpected ways.
