The interim retirement commissioner says raising the age to receive superannuation payments would do more harm than good. In a three-yearly review of retirement income policy released this morning, Peter Cordtz says the government should prioritise other matters, including changes to KiwiSaver. He says the universal superannuation payments are improving the living standards of vulnerable retirees, so should not be changed any time soon. That's despite public submissions to the review raising concerns about the ability for super to cover the increasing cost of living. Mr Cordtz spoke to business reporter Madison Reidy, who began by asking him who would be harmed if the super age was lifted.
