The Department of Conservation have paid tribute to conservationist David Bellamy, saying the department was built on the shoulders of his work. Dr Bellamy passed away aged 86 on Wednesday. A well known broadcaster in the UK, he became a household name here in the late 80's for his campaign against the weed Old Man's Beard. He was awarded the New Zealand 1990 Commeroration Medal to recognise the contribution he made to life here. According to Lou Sanson, who's the Director General of the Department of Conservation, David Bellamy was part of the fabric of Doc.
