2019 Child Poverty Monitor shows high figures of deprivation

From First Up, 5:38 am on 9 December 2019

A city bigger than Dunedin - that's how many New Zealand children are living in serious poverty. It's just one of the findings in the 2019 Child Poverty Monitor, examining hardship in New Zealand. The monitor also found that children living in areas of high deprivation are three times more likely to end up in hospital than other children. The Children's Comissioner, Judge Andrew Becroft says big and bold action is required to reduce the figures and it needs to be taken now. He spoke to our producer Katie Doyle about the state of child poverty in New Zealand.
