Moeraki locals upset at vandalism of boulders

From First Up, 5:38 am on 26 November 2019

Moeraki locals are upset at the increasing amount of visitors etching their names into the famous boulders. They're asking DOC and the Waitaki District Council to put a stop to the behaviour, which seems to have ramped up over the past six months. DOC says it's working on better signage to educate visitors, and Waitaki District Council says the behaviour is strictly illegal, with fines of up to 100-thousand dollars. Shortly after reading a letter to the editor of her local paper about damage to the boulders, Moeraki resident Lesley Campbell says she went to see what was going on. She told reporter Katie Todd the damage was the worst she'd seen in 30 years living there.
