Recommendations made to improve winter grazing practices

A hard hitting report into winter grazing practices has made 11 recommendations, but the true extent of the problem remains unknown. The special taskforce into winter grazing was set up in August after animal rights activists released photos of cows wallowing in mud. Farm groups said these pictures were taken out of context and most winter grazing was not like this. The taskforce's chairman John Hellstrom, told our rural reporter Maja Burry they spoke to a wide range of people and drew on information gained during MPI investigations into the practice over the years, as well as the latest science.
