The latest from the second week of impeachment hearings

From First Up, 5:10 am on 20 November 2019

The second week of impeachment hearings into President Donald Trump is underway with top witnesses scheduled to testify. The inquiry has reached the most crucial stage with the public expected to hear from the key three witnesses who were listening to the call between President Trump and the Ukraine leader Volodymyr Zelensky, which sparked a whistleblower complaint. The inquiry is centred on a July phone call between President Trump and the Ukraine leader in which Trump asked his Ukrainian counterpart to investigate former US Vice President Joe Biden, who is also a top Democratic 2020 presidential contender, and his son, Hunter, who had served on a board of a Ukrainian gas company. At the time of the call, the US was withholding nearly 400 million dollars in military aid from Ukraine, prompting speculation that Trump was using the money as leverage to get the desired investigations.
