Millions of water from SkyCity now pumping into wastewater

The majority of Auckland's beaches will be safe to use this Labour weekend - despite water used to put out the SkyCity convention centre fire being pumped into the harbour. About a million litres of water was pumped from the car park into the harbour, before tests proved it was safe to be pumped into the waste water system instead. A hazard alert is in place at St Mary's Bay - but Auckland's Safeswim program manager Nick Vigar told Matthew Theunissen the risk to other beaches in the region is limited. He also told him it will take a number of days to remove all the water from the carpark.
