The push to keep horse racing in the running

The government is leading a push to revitalise horse racing - an industry that has been dying a slow death for decades. To do this, it's pushing racing clubs in rural communities like Hawera, Winston and Gore to close their tracks. New Plymouth Raceway has so far survived the cull, and Max Towle visited on raceday to speak to Taranaki Racing chief executive Carey Hobbs, who says closures are unfortunate, but necessary
