SPCA: don't shop at High St pet stores

From First Up, 5:54 am on 20 September 2019

The SPCA is urging people not to shop at high street pet shops after the franchise 'Petstop' was fined 10-thousand dollars for failing to properly care for a kitten, a water dragon and two geckos. After a four-year court battle, the business was sentenced this week having earlier pleaded guilty to four charges under the Animal Welfare Act. It's the first successful prosecution against a pet shop by the SPCA. It's chief executive Andrea Midgen told First Up producer Matthew Theunissen what happened.
