Tall Blacks aim for more history at FIBA Basketball World Cup

From First Up, 5:20 am on 30 August 2019

The former New Zealand men's basketballer John Macdonald believes the Tall Blacks can make history at the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup in China. The tournament begins on Sunday with New Zealand taking on Brazil, Montenegro and Greece in their pool. Macdonald, now a judge in Dunedin, was the point guard in the New Zealand team that first beat Australia in 1978. That 78 team, led by the influential big man Stan Hill, helped lay the platform for New Zealand's basketball's success on the world stage for years to come - including the Tall Blacks' fourth place finish at the 2002 World Cup. Matt Chatterton spoke to him about the Tall Blacks' chances at this World Cup but started on his memories of that victory over Australia 41 years ago.
