Kawerau woman collects 452,000 cans for cancer

From First Up, 5:45 am on 29 August 2019

About 452-thousand - that's the number of aluminum cans an 81 year old Kawerau woman has collected to raise money for cancer. It's a mission Kay Dodunski and her late husband began 5 years ago and when he passed away she continued riding around the neighbourhood on her mobility scooter collecting all the cans she could get. She drops bags of them off at the local recycling centre and at 80 cents per kilo, she has so far raised 6000 dollars for the Cancer Society. Tomorrow is Daffodil day - the society's annual fundraising appeal for the 1 in 3 New Zealanders affected by cancer. Kay Dodunski is encouraging all New Zealanders to do their part to help.
