BYO containers to buy over the counter food at supermarkets

In the pledge to rid the country of single use plastic bags supermarkets warned and then removed plastic bags from checkouts. This forced customers to bring in their own bags.

And just a month or so back one of the major supermarkets chains - Countdown - announced that customers could now bring their own containers for food sold over the counter.

We wanted to know how that was going to work and would it be safe? Producer Katrina Batten and video journalist Clare Eastham-Farrelly headed off to Countdown in Auckland's Ponsonby to find out just how many people are doing BYO containers.
