Save Our Unique Landscape advocate meets UN Gen-Sec

From First Up, 5:52 am on 14 May 2019

Community advocate Pania Newton met the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at breakfast yesterday morning. Pania is the spokesperson of SOUL or the Save Our Unique Landscape campaign - which aims to protect Ihumaatao from housing development. The land is currently owned by Fletcher Residential Limited but is seen as an integral part of the Otuataua Stonefield Historical reserve. Almost two weeks ago protestors blocked a road where the major housing development is set to get underway after Fletcher warned it had consent to close down the road. But just yesterday SOUL organisers found out that Fletchers did not have the right to close down the road. Indira asked Pania if the road is still open to the public at the moment?
