Alcohol age limits should match cannabis - addiction specialist

From First Up, 5:26 am on 8 May 2019

An addiction specialist has told First Up the government should look to increase the purchase age of alcohol to the one proposed for cannabis. Yesterday the government released draft legislation that will set a minimum age of 20 for buying and using cannabis, regulations for commercial supply, limited options for people to grow cannabis at home and a public education programme. Justice Minister Andrew Little explained that they'd set the purchase age as 20, compared to the purhcase age for alcohol, which is 18 bacause they're two different substances. Our producer Lydia Batham put that to addiction specialist Professor Doug Sellman from the Univeristy of Otago.
