Torrential rain in Otago and Canterbury has forced home-owners and holiday-makers to evacuate, with floodwaters rushing through several small towns.
The raging Ashburton and Rakaia Rivers have burst their banks in places, flooding paddocks and roads and putting Civil Defence on high alert.
