The Fiji government has declared a state of disaster ahead of the arrival of Cyclone Yasa.

The cyclone is due to make landfall on Fiji's two main islands this evening, with winds gusting as high as 350km/h.

A nationwide curfew is now in effect and will last through the night.

Thousands of residents in the north of Fiji are beginning to feel the effects of Yasa, as Christine Rovoi reports.
