Weather: MetService warns dry spring may worsen drought

The Metservice is warning Auckland's spring will be far drier than normal, exacerbating the water shortage for a city already in its worst drought in decades.

Over the weekend, Auckland's dams hit 60 percent full. At this time of year it's normally at 85 percent. MetService meteorologist Georgina Griffiths today addressed the Auckland Council water body Watercare - which is already grappling with the likelihood of imposing restrictions on Aucklanders until next autumn.

She told to RNZ reporter Jordan Bond it's looking increasingly likely it'll be a dry remainder of the year.
