Simon Morris, like everyone in the country, is interested to see how Taika Waititi acquits himself on a Marvel Comics blockbuster. And he finds it very lonely going to the other two films released this week.
Thor:Ragnarok is another Marvel spectacular, with a very Down Under flavour. Director Taika Waititi casts Cate Blanchett as guest villain, and gives roles to every Kiwi actor he knows – including himself as rock-monster Korg.
Brigsby Bear is a not-for-all-tastes tale of a man obsessed with an obscure TV series. It stars Kyle (Saturday Night Live) Mooney, Claire (Homeland) Danes and Mark (Star Wars) Hamill.
And Tulip Fever is Shakespeare in Love set in Amsterdam in 163, starring Alicia Vikander, Dane DeHaan and Judi Dench.
