AT THE MOVIES #882    OUT OF THE COMFORT ZONE

Simon Morris realizes that not all films are aimed at him – this week being a prime example.   Two films are aimed at the popular Girls’ Night Out market, while the Tom Cruise blockbuster is a sequel to a film he didn’t bother to see the first time.

Top Gun:  Maverick is the long-delayed follow-up to the 1986 Tom Cruise smash hit.   30 years on, Pete “Maverick” Marshall (Cruise) is summoned to train a new generation of Top Guns.   Also starring Jon Hamm, Jennifer Connolly and Val Kilmer.

The Tuesday Club is a Swedish film about disgruntled middle-aged women who look for a new lease on life at a weekly cooking class, run by a Swedish chef, played by Peter Stormare (Fargo).

And How to please a woman is an Australian film about a middle-aged woman who sets up a combination house-cleaning and sex-worker business.   Stars Sally Phillips (Bridget Jones’s Diary) and Erik Thomson (TV’s Packed to the rafters).
