AT THE MOVIES #769 IDEAS ABOVE THEIR STATION
Dan Slevin reviews three films that attempt to overcome their commercial limitations and bring some big ideas to the table – with varying degrees of success.
Toy Story 4 is the latest from Pixar and, like the best of their films, it offers plenty for grown-ups to chew on as well plenty to entertain the family.
In Yesterday, writer Richard Curtis and director Danny Boyle imagine a world where only one struggling musician has heard of The Beatles and he decides to adopt these orphan songs as his own.
And Parasite Palme d’Or at Cannes earlier this year (the first Korean film to do so) and Bong Joon-ho’s superb satirical thriller is a brilliant dissection of class, inequality and consumerism.
