AT THE MOVIES #766                   TELL ME A STORY

Simon Morris reviews two twice-told tales – Disney’s live-action remake of their classic animated feature Aladdin, and a Chilean film-maker’s English language version of his own 2013 romantic drama, Gloria.  And he talks to Nicholas Hoult, the star of a film about one of the great story-tellers, J R R Tolkien, creator of Lord of the Rings.

Aladdin is the story of the thief who falls in love with a princess, featuring a mostly Asian cast, along with Will Smith as the Genie.  Directed by Guy Ritchie.

Gloria Bell is an American remake of the Chilean art-house favourite Gloria.  Starring Julianne Moore and John Turturro, it’s directed by the original film-maker, Sebastian Lelo.

And British star Nicholas Hoult talks about his new film Tolkien – the surprising life of the creator of the Middle Earth sagas.  Also starring Lily Collins (TV’s Les Miserables).
