AT THE MOVIES #654 – REFORMING THE OLD BAND
Simon Morris wonders why so many old favourites are being brought back, 20 years later. He also goes to the possibly misjudged remake of a genuine classic, Ben-Hur, and a film that’s unlikely to be remembered in a month, Bad Moms. Raising the standard a little, the Jordanian-made Oscar nominee for Best Foreign Film Theeb is an unlikely winner.
Featured this week – Ben-Hur is remade as a B-movie, starring Jack Huston and Morgan Freeman.
Bad Moms is a girls-night-out movie, written by the blokes who wrote The Hangover. Starring Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Christina Applegate.
And Theeb is a sort of Arab Western, set in the desert of Arabia during the First World War. Nominated for both an Academy Award and a Bafta.
