Diana Wong - Elegant Artist

She’ll work on each appliqued beaded lampshade or picture for up to a year, with thousands of stitches going into each artwork. She has hosted soirées in her art deco home of almost 80 years, parties graced by the likes of the late Ramai Hayward, Carmen Rupe and Frida Stark.

Lynda’s in Auckland to meet 80-year-old, effervescent, tap-dancing artist Diana Wong. Never married and ahead of her time, she’s a Grey Lynn legend with stories to tell about growing up in the heydays of Auckland in the 1930s and 40s.
