Your place - Otira

From Afternoons with Jesse Mulligan, 1:21 pm on 10 April 2014

Otira is an old railway town sandwiched between the West Coast's rugged mountains, nestled at the bottom of the Otira gorge. It was founded in the 1860s as a Cobb & Co coach stop for prospectors making their way between Christchurch and the West Coast. It's famous for extreme weather and stunning landscapes, and has repeatedly made headlines over the past few years as being a town up for sale.
