Topics - Auckland employers were issued a challenge today to hire a young unemployed person. At a business "summit" hosted by Mayor Len Brown the Warehouse founder Sir Stephen Tindall pledged $1.85 million from his Tindall Foundation over the next three years to continue a Youth Connections scheme he helped start two years ago. Wellington now houses more public servants than at any time since at least 2000, with the greatest share of the bureaucracy centred there since National took office in 2008. Although National pledged and then made efforts to reduce "core" public servants in favour of "frontline" workers, the number of fulltime public servants based in Wellington rose by more than 900 in the year to June 2013, to 18,493.
