It's one of two townships named for our 14th, and longest-serving, Prime Minister. Richard John Seddon, King Dick, was Liberal Party Premier from 1883 until his death in 1906. In 1893 his name was bestowed on a small coal-mining town on the South Island's west coast. Today it's a community of fewer than 70 residents, tucked away in a hidden, often forgotten valley, 50 kilometres north of Westport.
