Arthur Dudley Dobson - Chris Stewart

From Afternoons, 3:42 pm on 14 March 2014

150 years ago this month Arthur Dudley Dobson became the first European to walk the pass over the Southern Alps to the goldfields on the West Coast. His brother decided to name it "Arthur's pass". This weekend, dignatries and even a direct descendant of Arthur Dudley Dobson will be celebrating the important anniversary by opening a new Department of Conservatrion walking track that follows some of the same route the Maori and Europeans walked to cross from east to west. There will be vintage cars and activities in the village over the weekend. Chris Stewart is a DOC Partnerships Ranger.
