A passion for elephants

From Afternoons, 2:21 pm on 12 December 2013

12-year-old Jack Lanting from Te Awamutu won't be spending his holidays relaxing at the beach. He'll be learning how to speak Thai and coming up with ways to raise money to help his beloved elephants in Thailand. Jack first came to our attention a few years ago when he raised 20-thousand dollars to rescue an aging trekking and logging elephant who he named Kwan Jai. She spent her last years in freedom thanks to Jack, but passed away earlier this year. Now Jack is working hard on raising more money to save another elephant.
