Topics - The government has rejected a proposal to build a $525 million ferry terminal at Clifford Bay that had promised to cut transport times between the North Island and Canterbury. The transport minister, Gerry Brownlee, says a study of the Clifford Bay proposal's viability found the government would have had to stump up a portion of the costs in order to induce the private sector to invest in the terminal's construction and operation. Auckland's "hidden-gem" suburbs have been identified by Westpac in its new housing report released today. They are close to Auckland's fastest-selling homes but are substantially cheaper. As a result, buyers can save themselves up to eight years' worth of mortgage payments.
