Your Place - Peel Forest

From Afternoons, 1:25 pm on 17 October 2013

Peel Forest is an off-the-beaten-track location in the foot hills of the Southern Alps, about 14 kilometres north of Geraldine and about five kilometres from the nearest main highway, State Highway 79. Around 80 permanent residents call this place home; occupations range from farming to tourism. Peel Forest is a clutch of about 30 houses and a small number of baches, or cribs, as they are known further south. Peel Forest is an area of land defined by two rivers - the Rangatata to the north and Orari to the south - and a remnant of a once magnificent podocarp forest which once covered most of Canterbury.
