Human fingerprints can be used to identify someone and prove whether or not they were at a crime scene. 'Food fingerprints' do much the same, confirming whether products like milk and apples really come from the place they claim to be from. A Dunedin company is using food fingerprints to help New Zealand producers fight back against counterfeit goods in overseas markets - products which falsely claim to be from New Zealand.
