In 1902 a ship carrying the exhumed bones of 499 Chinese gold miners sunk off the Hokianga coast. At the time, local iwi took up the bones that washed ashore to protect them until family could come to claim them. Lynda Chanwai-Earle joins the Chinese community on a road trip for a once-in-a-lifetime Ching Ming event that sees the Maori and Chinese descendants meeting, 110 years after the first bone washed ashore.
