Your Place - Edendale
A town on the Southland Plains, just to the west of the Mataura River. The area was not favoured by early European settlers because they thought it swampy, and in 1854 a stockman by the name of John Mackenzie took up most of the land. He was the same Mackenzie later jailed for sheep rustling and for whom the Mackenzie country is named.
