Our Changing World - Whale Evolution
Recent news about a stranding of whales which had never been seen before highlights just how little we know about the world's largest animals. Two people trying to change this are University of Otago palaeo-biologists Ewan Fordyce and Felix Marx who study living and extinct whales to work out how they evolved. They tell Veronika Meduna that whales could only grow as huge as they have thanks to some of the tiniest creatures in the ocean.
