War Secrets

From Afternoons, 2:11 pm on 12 August 2011

New Zealander Captain David Nelson was the keeper of secrets at the infamous Changi Japanese POW camp in Singapore. For years, he kept notes on the 100,000 prisoners who passed through Changi on their way to forced labour camps and the prisoners who died in the overcrowded prison. Nelson accumulated two trunks of papers and notes weighing 710 kilos. Lost for 65 years, the UK Ministry of Defence has now announced they've found the documents. Jim spoke to Mason Nelson, Captain Nelson's son.
