$20 million from scratch tickets

Joan Ginther has been called the luckiest woman alive after winning more than US$20 million in scratch card jackpots over the course of 10 years. An article in Harper's Magazine has questioned whether the wins can be put down to good luck or good math. It turns out Ginther is a former math professor specialising in statistics, with a Ph.D. from Stanford University.
