Gifts can come in many shapes and sizes, and for Ascot Community School a massive pine log gifted by Invercargill City Council is the start of something special.
Taua Papatua is a Master Carver, who learnt his skills the "old school way" from his dad in the Cook Islands.
He's going to share his skills with the students at Ascot Community School, and together they're going to make their own waka.
