People with disabilities taking on the Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award challenges

From Afternoons, 1:26 pm on 21 November 2022

From beach clean ups to exploring the natural beauty of the Wellington region - a group of young people living with disabilities are being given a unique opportunity to upskill and give back to their community.

The Manaaki Ability Trust in Lower Hutt has introduced its rangatahi to the challenges of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award programme.

It means they have to dedicate an hour a week to either a skills, a voluntary service activity or a Physical Recreation activity.

It gives them a unique sense of achievement and is a win win for everyone.

Trust's programme co-ordinator Louisa Kelly talks to Jesse.
