Issy Hinton-Russell, her father Greg and step-mother Christine are returning from a visit to Canberra where they spent a few weeks with her grandmother before she died.
Cleaning up her grandmother's house after, the family discovered she had donated to 20 charities every year.
This discovery inspired Issy and her step-mum Christine Prince - the CEO of the NZ Flying Doctors Service - to come up with their own charity fundraiser.
The NZ Flying Doctors Service is a flying ICU unit that transport patients between hospitals.
Usually, the Flying Doctors fundraise through hosting events, Issy says, but Covid-19 has made this impossible and they now urgently need funds to continue their work.
"Part of the reason why I think this is such a worthy charity is no one really hears about it yet they do such amazing work."
Each transportation flight the Flying Doctors make costs $2,500, and Issy's family are trying to raise $10,000 to cover four of them
They're doing this by running or biking for 10 kilometres per day while in quarantine.
For the first few days, Issy did her kilometres running laps of the hotel room - up to 300 per day - and she was greatly relieved when they got an exercise bike - "a slightly less insane way of still doing a lot of exercise".
The fundraiser has received over $6,000 in donations already and the support has been really heartwarming, she says.
