Housing intensification bill 'overdue' - urban design specialist

From Afternoons, 1:19 pm on 29 November 2021

Plenty of critics have emerged since the government announced its bipartisan plan to make the way for greater housing intensification.

Those against the bill have voiced fears over potential 'urban slums' and a loss of character in neighbourhoods.

Urban design specialist Matthew Prasad, from Holistic Urban Environments, submitted in favour of the bill.

"This Bill is greatly overdue and recognises Aotearoa is becoming an urbanised nation, not a nostalgic agglomeration of low-density villages and centres," he wrote in a submission.

He joins Jesse to explain why he supports the bill and wants to see it go ahead.
