Kiingi Tuheitia Portraiture Award finalists on display
Last year the Kiingi Tuheitia Portraiture Award was launched to encourage the next generation of Maori artists to showcase their talents while connecting to and celebrating their tupuna.
The award attracted portraits using a wide range of mediums including whakairo (carving), raranga (weaving), photography, ceramics and oil paintings.
The finalists are currently on display at The New Zealand Portrait Gallery Te Pūkenga Whakaata in Wellington over Matariki, before touring the country later this year. Gallery director, Brian Wood talks to Jesse.
