NZ Screen History: Under the Mountain

From Afternoons with Jesse Mulligan, 2:27 pm on 3 June 2021

Time now for New Zealand Screen History, and today we're revisiting a sci-fi television show that terrified a generation of children. Under The Mountain was an eight-part series inspired by the Maurice Gee novel of the same name, which screened in 1981. It was innovative in its use of special effects, including humanoid aliens changing into giant slugs, and creepy underground tunnels.

The head designer of the show Rob Gillies, and actor Roy Billing are with Jesse to discuss how it was made.
