Native forests barriers to protect East Coast waterways

An East Coast forestry project will see native forest barriers planted along the coast to protect waterways in future storms.

Past storms in the area have seen tens of thousands of cubic metres of forestry waste tumble down rivers and wash onto beaches.

The project is the first of its kind in New Zealand, and it will be managed by the environmental land use business eLand NZ which as signed a 90-year agreement with landowner Aratu Forests..
