Ngāi Tahu announced today it is taking legal action against the Crown to protect South Island lakes and rivers. The iwi says it is seeking recognition of its rangatiratanga over the freshwater in the Ngāi Tahu takiwā area. It has filed papers in the High Court in Christchurch.
