Bar-tailed godwits heading to New Zealand

From Afternoons, 1:37 pm on 15 September 2020

A new batch of bar-tailed godwits are on their way to New Zealand.

These birds follow in the esteemed wake of 'E7' - a legendary godwit - that holds the world record for the longest non-stop flight from Alaska to New Zealand.

The Pukorokoro Miranda Shorebird Centre has been keeping track of the annual migrations of bar-tailed godwits for at least 30 years.

Jesse speaks to Adrian Riegen from the centre, who is known as "the dude" when it comes to tracking migratory birds.

You can follow the birds here.
